Winner winner, let’s have burgers for dinner! I’m a big fan of any meal that is freezer-friendly for me to thaw on the nights I just can’t make the dinner I planned, or maybe didn’t even have anything planned. I am someone who makes a meal plan weekly before grocery shopping, but sometimes I need something quick for the kids and my husband and I eat dinner later. Or maybe I planned for one of my meals to have leftovers but we gobbled them all up. Even the best meal planners sometimes run into situations where they need something that’s quick and easy for dinner either with what they have on hand or something ready to go in the freezer, like these jalapeno cheddar turkey burgers.
If you’re worried about the jalapeno in this recipe don’t worry about it! I’m a baby when it comes to spicy food and even with two jalapenos in it, these have just a mild level of spice and I feed the burgers to my kids. These jalapeno cheddar turkey burgers are even more delicious topped with sliced tomato and lettuce, plus some avocado for good measure. There’s cheddar cheese in the burgers, but I add an extra slice of cheese on top of the burger too. You can never go wrong with extra cheese!
If you’re looking for some extra flavor, you can certainly throw these burgers on the grill. I cooked mine on the stove because I don’t even know how to use our grill and leave it up to my husband. But also because the extra step of firing up the grill sometimes takes an easy weeknight dinner and makes it seem a lot more challenging. So let me assure you, it’s not a necessary step! These jalapeno cheddar turkey burgers will be delicious no matter where you cook them.
- 1 lb. ground turkey
- 2 jalapenos, seeds removed, finely chopped
- ½ tsp. salt
- ¼ tsp. ground black pepper
- ½ tsp. garlic powder
- ½ tsp. onion powder
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Oil for pan for cooking
- Sliced cheddar cheese, for topping
- Sliced tomato, lettuce, adn avocado, for topping (optional)
- In a large bowl, combine turkey, jalapenos, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and shredded cheese.
- Heat oil in a large frying pan or skillet. Use your hands to form patties. Cook on each side over medium-low heat until golden brown and cooked through. Check the internal temperature as well; it should read 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
- If topping with sliced cheddar cheese, place a slice on top of each burger and then cover to allow the cheese to melt.
- Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels. Serve on a bun topped with lettuce, tomato, and avocado.
- Enjoy!

[…] With lettuce and tomato, a BLT is basically already a salad sandwich. Why not take that classic flavor combination and turn it into a BLT salad? Bacon, lettuce, and tomato, plus avocado added in and all drizzled with a bacon vinaigrette makes the perfect delicious salad. With tomatoes at their peak right now, this is the perfect salad recipe to make. I love having this for lunch, and you can feel free to add some shredded chicken or chickpeas if the bacon isn’t enough protein. It’s also a delicious salad to enjoy alongside your favorite burger.
