When it comes to appetizers, I love something easy. Whether your entertaining a crowd or cooking for a holiday, typically the main meal (and maybe the dessert!) require a lot of your attention. Appetizers are ideally super easy, just a few ingredients to make, and crowd-pleasing. These 5 ingredient asparagus prosciutto puff pastry appetizers couldn’t be easier. A few minutes to make, a few minutes in the oven, and you’ve got an easy appetizer that everyone will love.
Here’s what you need to make this little appetizer:
- Asparagus
- Prosciutto
- Puff pastry
- Swiss cheese
- Egg (optional, to get those shiny puff pastry tops!)
To make them, trim the ends off your asparagus and cut your puff pastry into squares. Wrap the asparagus in a slice of Swiss cheese and a piece of prosciutto, then wrap in the puff pastry, then place on a baking sheet. I like to brush the tops of these appetizers with a beaten egg for that shiny golden top, but you can skip this step if you want!
These asparagus prosciutto puff pastry appetizers are great for Mother’s Day, Easter, or just about any occasion where you need a simple appetizer that tastes fancy or something to round out a meal. I think anything with puff pastry and prosciutto tastes fancy! Kevin always grills delicious steak for me on Mother’s Day and these would be the perfect thing to serve with it.
- 1½ lbs. fresh asparagus
- 1 box puff pastry sheets
- 4 oz. sliced prosciutto
- 8 slices Swiss cheese
- 1 egg, beaten
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line 2 rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Wash and dry the asparagus, then trim the tough ends.
- Cut the puff pastry into squares. Take a small bundle of asparagus, about 4-5 spears, and wrap in a slice of swiss cheese and then a slice of prosciutto. Then wrap the whole bundle in a square of puff pastry. Place on the baking sheet.
- If desired, brush the tops of the puff pastry with a beaten egg. This will give you a shiny, golden top but its completely optional!
- Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve immediately. Enjoy!
