It’s been a while since I’ve had a blog post up! Last month we were blessed to welcome our fourth child and second daughter, Aurora Marie. She is such a sweet baby and we are all obsessed with our now six week old baby girl. I love having four kids even though it is so busy, and I can’t believe we have two boys and two girls! I’m so thrilled the kids have built-in best friends. I don’t plan to return to my regular blog posting schedule until the new year, but I couldn’t resist sharing this apple cider sangria in time for Halloween! This is another cocktail made in partnership with my friend Jen of Grape Juice Mom and she sent me the perfect pinot grigio for this beverage. We collaborated for a Thanksgiving sangria last year, a spring sangria for Easter, and now this recipe. Jen knows far more about wine than I ever will and here’s what she has to say about the wine she recommended for this recipe!
When I consider the wine to use for any wine cocktail, it’s important to balance quality and cost. When you’re adding liquor, juice, or fruits, you’re going to lose the delicate details of a wine, so there’s no sense in over-spending! Finding a wine under $12 is absolutely feasible! Pinot Grigio is a great option for this apple cider sangria because it has natural apple and lemon notes, is light-bodied so you can control the depth of the flavors and body with your added ingredients, and it’s easy to find affordable options. I recommended this Pinot Grigio from Friuli, Italy for Claire’s recipe. Friuli is known for the greatest quality in Pinot Grigio world-wide but also highly cost effective!
I know that celebrating Halloween will look a little different this year, but that’s no reason to not be festive with your beverage of choice! Apple cider sangria is great for Halloween, Thanksgiving, or any weekend you’re feeling a little extra festive.
- 1 750 mL bottle pinot grigio
- 2 cups apple cider or apple juice
- 1 12 oz. bottle hard cider
- ½ cup vodka
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1-2 apples, chopped (I used a granny smith and a honeycrisp)
- In a large pitcher, combine all ingredients. Stir and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or up to overnight. Enjoy!
