I’m so happy to be back working with Jen of Grape Juice Mom with another cocktail! She reached out to me a few months ago asking if I wanted to participate in her “Rose all May” theme, and of course I said yes! I have worked with her multiple times and it is always such a blast. I dream up a festive cocktail, and she sends me the perfect wine or bubbly to make it happen. Recently we created a sparkling spring sangria, but we have also made a grapefruit champagne punch as well as Christmas and Thanksgiving cocktails! And this strawberry frose won’t be our last rose-based beverage either, we have another one coming before the end of the month.
When I was first thinking of a rose-based cocktail, I knew I wanted to make a frose. They are so easy, so perfect for summer (and Mother’s Day), and simply delicous. This recipe is strawberry based, and I made it using frozen strawberries so that you can enjoy it immediately after blending. But if you’re making it in advance, that’s great too! I like to put it in my freezer in mason jars and just add a straw when I’m ready to enjoy it. Because of the alcohol in the drink, it won’t freeze completely. The best part? This strawberry frose is just four ingredients and takes a few minutes to blend. When I told Jen my idea, she had the perfect suggestion for what rose to use. Here’s what she said!
When it comes to frose, just remember two things when selection your wines. First, don’t use bubbly, and second, don’t spend too much. Using bubbly in frose is a little wasteful because when you freeze it, you’ll likely use the effervescence but if you don’t, effervescence in a blender will make a mess! So it’s best to stick with a still rose. An affordable rose is my next suggestion. When any wine is served very cold, you’ll love a lot of the aromas and subtle flavors that you might appreciate from a more expensive rose. Sticking with a fruit-forward, affordable option like canned rose is a great idea, and allows you to control making a smaller or larger batch as well!
- 1 bottle still rose*
- 3 heaping cups frozen strawberries
- ¼ cup vodka
- Juice of 1 lemon
- Blend all ingredients together in a high-speed blender.
- You can enjoy this cocktail immediately, or transfer to mason jars or freezer safe container and freeze until ready to serve. Keep in mind the drink will expand a bit as it freezes so do not fill completely. Because of the alcohol, this will not freeze solid and will be more like a sorbet texture after some time in the freezer.
- Enjoy!
