It’s been far too long since I shared a cocktail here, and what better way to kick off summer than these spicy mango margaritas? Margaritas are one of my favorite summer cocktails and there’s nothing I like more than sitting outside sipping one while the kids run around and Kevin makes something delicious on the grill. There are so many ways to customize a margarita to make it your own. I love a classic margarita, but adding another fruit, adding a little bit of heat, or adding something to mix it up is always a good idea too. A classic margarita just uses tequila, freshly squeeze lime juice, triple sec or Cointreau, and agave. Salt for the rim is optional, but I always like a salted rim on my margarita! This spicy mango margarita recipe uses those ingredients and then some to give you a refreshing twist on the classic.
In addition to the ingredients required in a classic margarita recipe, you’ll need some mango nectar or mango juice (I like Jumex brand for this) and jalapenos! If you just want a mango margarita that’s not spicy, simply leave the jalapenos out! I’m a baby when it comes to spicy food but shaking the drink in a cocktail shaker with jalapeno slices is just enough heat for me! Muddling the jalapenos in the shaker would give you even more spicy but I was looking for just a subtle kick.
These spicy mango margaritas will definitely be in our rotation all summer long. If you can’t find or don’t have mango juice, you can also substitute orange juice or pineapple juice for an orange or pineapple margarita. Mix a couple of fruit juices together and make a tropical margarita! There are no wrong answers here. The recipe below includes quantities for a single margarita as well as a pitcher of margaritas that makes 8 single servings!
- 3 oz. tequila
- 2-3 slices jalapeno
- 3 oz. mango juice or nectar
- 2 oz. triple sec
- 2 oz. lime juice
- 24 oz. tequila
- 1 jalapeno, sliced
- 24 oz. mango juice or nectar
- 16 oz. triple sec
- 16 oz. lime juice
- Lime wedges and coarse salt for serving, optional
- For a single serving, rub a lime wedge over the edge of a glass then turn upside down onto a plate or shallow dish with coarse salt. Add ice to glass.
- Place the single serving margarita ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into the glass with the salted rim. Enjoy!
- For the pitcher of margaritas, place all ingredients into a large pitcher and stir well to combine. Remove jalapeno slices (or leave them for an extra spicy kick!)
- Rub lime wedges over the edge of the glasses then turn upside down onto a plate or shallow dish with coarse salt. Add ice to the glass, pour the margaritas, and enjoy!
