Ingredients
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
Maple Brown Sugar Cookies
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 egg, at room temperature
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • ½ tsp. salt
Maple Frosting
  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tbsp. pure maple syrup
  • Water for thinning, as necessary
  • Flakey sea salt for topping, optional
Instructions
  1. Using a stand mixer or a large bowl with a hand mixer, cream together butter and brown sugar. Add the egg and mix until light and fluffy. Then add the maple syrup and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Add these ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture and mix until just combined.
  3. Refrigerate for a minimum of one hour and up to several hours.
  4. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  5. Form the dough into balls and bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are golden brown and the centers begin to set.
  6. Allow the cookies to cool completely before making the maple frosting. In a small bowl, mix together the powdered sugar and maple syrup together until very smooth. Add a dash or two of water to thin if necessary.
  7. Drizzle or spread the frosting over the cooled cookies and sprinkle with sea salt, if desired.
  8. Enjoy!
